  LETTER FROM EDITOR
2006 ended with a bang in regard to venture investing according to statistics from the latest Moneytree Report, published by PriceWaterhouse Coopers, National Venture Capital Association and Thomson Financial. The report indicates that venture investing for Q4 of 2006 remained steady nationwide at $5 to $6 billion, helping venture capital investing reach an all time high in 2006.

For more on the report and a list of which east coast venture firms topped the list in regard to amount invested, visit my recently launched blog simply called: Venture Capital East.

Of course, more venture money invested, more opportunity for executives hoping to land a job with emerging growth companies. In this issue of Talent Pool News [east] you can read about recently appointed execs from companies such as New York-city based KickApps, Reston, Va.-based Approva and Intellitactics, Fairfax, Va.-based SiloSmashers, Lexington, Ma.-based Predictive Biosciences, Jacksonville, Fla.-based Vurv, New York City-based Cosmocom, and Moorsetown, NJ-based Miles Technologies.

If your eye hasn’t already caught it on the Front Page, you’ll see there is some big name news in the Board of Directors world. John Sculley, of Pepsi-Cola and Apple fame, has joined the board of West Palm Beach-based PDSHeart.

Part of my goal by publishing Talent Pool News [east] is to ferret out the risk takers on this side of the river. I found one, based in Boca Raton, better known as a place to retire than a place to put your nest egg on the line, by the name of Navroze Mehta. I spoke to Mehta earlier this month for my column Executive Close-Up. When I got off the phone my thought was: this is why I write this stuff.

Michael Greeley of IDG Ventures Boston has a similar affinity for entrepreneurs. I came across Greeley via Predictive Systems, a company his fund recently invested in. For more on Greeley, see this month's VC Profile.
