Sujit Banerjee has joined cleantech private equity firm
Element Partners as Operating Partner. Banerjee brings nine years of venture capital investment experience to Element. At BlueRun, his dual interests in cleantech and India led to a co-investment with Element in Deeya Energy, where he established the company's go-to-market strategy in India, leveraging a technology developed at NASA. In addition, Banerjee led another Element co-investment in Petra Solar, a leading renewable energy systems company. His other investments include SliceX, CyOptics, MagSil, NexPlanar, and Sasken (BSE: SASKEN). Prior to BlueRun, Banerjee was a Principal with TL Ventures, where he led investments in pre-IPO companies Atrenta and Sonics. Previously, he worked as an investment banker with Merrill Lynch, a management consultant in the semiconductor industry, and an engineer with Synoptics Communications. Element Partners is dedicated to expansion and growth equity investments in companies that address environmental and resource challenges in the energy, water, chemicals, and manufacturing industries. Founded in December 2005, Element Partners manages over $800 million in three funds and has offices in Philadelphia, PA and Menlo Park, Calif.

Stanford Professor and Google Engineer Sebastian Thrun has joined Waltham, Mass.-based Charles River Venture (CRV) as Senior Advisor. Thrun is a professor of computer science and electrical engineering at Stanford University, where he also directs the Stanford Artificial Intelligence Laboratory (SAIL). He also serves as a principal engineer at Google where he was a key driver behind Google StreetView. A leading expert on artificial intelligence, robotics, and all things computer, Thrun will work with the partners at CRV to identify new investment opportunities in internet services and technology while also advising the firm's portfolio company executives on product and technology strategy.
